CHRIS WALKUP, AIA | PRINCIPAL

Chris Walkup joined GLAS in 2000 with the goal of gaining experience working on public sector projects. That goal has been achieved after nearly 25 years of work on K-12 schools, federal agency projects, and operations centers. “The learning process is never over. In this field there is always something new.” Before his time at GLAS, Chris spent several years in construction, designing custom private residences, and private sector commercial projects, giving Chris a well-rounded perspective when it comes to client relationships and the construction phase of the project.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys being outdoors, whether it is running on a Cascade Lakes Relay team, hiking around Waldo Lake with his family, or doing a 50K trail race along the McKenzie river. “My favorite activities involve creating shared memories and experiences with my wife Janna, my two adult daughters Anne and Kate and my golden retriever Sabrina.”

Chris was born and raised in Portland area before coming to the University of Oregon to pursue a degree in architecture. After graduation he decided to stay. “Eugene is a great place to raise a family. It is small enough to chat with a neighbor at the grocery store, but big enough to have all of the cultural offerings of a larger city.”

“Architecture is about community, and my goal is to elevate our community through thoughtful design putting sustainability, beauty, and resiliency on even footing with the client’s wishes and needs.”
