TED CORBIN, ASSOCIATE AIA | DESIGNER

Ted Corbin moved to Eugene in 1997 having completed a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Utah and began part-time work at a commercial architecture office while enrolling as a graduate student at University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Allied Arts. While working through design studios, Ted also followed his passion for architectural history with successive Graduate Student Fellow positions assisting faculty instruction in seminar classes and special projects highlighting the work of both Alvar Aalto and Pietro Belluschi. One surprise along the way was Ted learning that Belluschi was the designer of St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco where Ted’s older sister was married 20 years earlier. With studies at the UO complete, Ted spent his time after working hours volunteering on the Springfield Historic Commission, DevNW neighborhood economic development non-profit, and the Springfield Downtown Advisory Committee for Revitalization.

Now, outside the office, Ted makes every effort to tour the US and has driven back and forth across the country twice (for pleasure!).  Always looking for a National Park, National Monument or historic downtown, many of the miles have been on state highways, eschewing the pure and too predictable speed of the interstate system.  Whether it’s the Monroe Elementary School in Topeka, or the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, or misty draws of Smoky Mountain National Park, or wine country in Walla Walla, or Taliesin in Spring Green, there’s always another corner of culture, style, and history in the US that’s worth a visit.  And, it’s where Ted finds his inspiration for architecture; on the road.
