Located less than a mile away from Autzen Stadium, Chase Crossing is a three story, wood-framed apartment building comprised of one bedroom and studio units. To accommodate the desired 170+ unit count on the 3.2 acre site, a square courtyard scheme was developed. A 37’-0” opening at the southeast corner of the building footprint allows additional sunlight to stream into the interior courtyard from the side, as well as from above, throughout the day. Framed by building on four sides, the courtyard transformed into a semi-private communal outdoor room, complete with a pool and large patio with lounge seating. The shape of the building also helps shelter the majority of the residents from the I-5 corridor located to the east of the project site.

The building form, materials, and color palette were selected to blend in with the character of the existing neighborhood. While helping extend living spaces to the outdoors, units are provided with either ground floor patios or covered balconies, which were integrated into the design of the façade. Through a variety of energy and water efficiency and other sustainable design measures, the project achieved LEED Platinum certification.
