LOWELL SD BOND PROJECTS

LOWELL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Lowell, Oregon

GLAS Architects was initially hired in 2015 to assist Lowell School District in the development of an educational program, facilities assessment and master plan. This work included facilities communications and community outreach support that led to a successful bond measure and seismic rehabilitation grant awards.

GLAS was retained to complete the majority of projects identified under the master plan’s priorities one and two, which emphasized seismic upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and the replacement of aging facilities—most notably a new high school gymnasium and dedicated wrestling space to support the district’s strong athletic tradition. The gym has become a hosting space for basketball, wrestling and volleyball tournaments and accommodates community events like the annual Blackberry Jam Festival. The original gym was repurposed into a cafeteria, kitchen, and school auditorium.

Renovations at both Lowell High School and Lundy Elementary included seismic upgrades, updated classroom lighting and finishes, mechanical system improvements across all educational and administrative spaces, and a district-wide integrated security and communication system.

In 2022, GLAS began design work on a new classroom and weight room building to further expand Lowell High School’s academic and athletic offerings. Completed in winter 2024, the facility includes a fully equipped weight room for PE and sports training, along with two dedicated classrooms that provide instructors with independent teaching spaces. Together, these improvements reflect the district’s long-term commitment to student success, community presence, and thoughtful, future-ready design.
