OREGON COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Newport, Oregon
The Oregon Coast Advanced Technology and Trades (OCATT) Center is a new facility designed to expand hands‑on learning opportunities for students preparing for careers in construction, industrial facilities maintenance, maritime technology, HVAC systems, welding, and related technical fields. The 26,000 square foot building brings these programs together in a single location on OCCC’s Newport campus, creating a coordinated environment for workforce training and industry engagement.
Instructional spaces are organized around flexibility and durability with large shop areas that provide for full‑scale demonstrations and equipment use. Adjacent classrooms and support spaces facilitate student-employer engagement and allow programs to shift and grow over time. The design expresses the building’s structural and mechanical systems to reinforce the instructional mission. A mass timber frame with an Acoustic DLT roof system provides a warm, resilient structure suited to the coastal climate. Exterior materials are selected for long‑term performance and reduced maintenance, with a color palette that complements the surrounding forested site.
The OCATT Center continues to advance Oregon Coast Community College’s goal of strengthening the coastal workforce. Once complete, the facility will serve as a regional hub for trades and technology education, supporting students as they develop the skills needed to contribute to communities along the Oregon Coast.
